How to Test a New Wax Before Mass Production
Before you make 100 candles with a new wax, always test it. Testing helps you avoid wasting materials and gives your customers a better experience.
Here’s a simple 3-step testing method:
1. Wick Test
Choose 2–3 wick sizes for your jar or mould.
Pour the same wax into each and burn for 2 hours.
What to look for:
- Is the flame steady?
- Is there soot or smoke?
- Is the melt pool wide enough?
If not, change the wick size.
2. Burn Test
Burn your test candle for 3–4 hours at a stretch.
Record total burn time.
What to look for:
- Does it tunnel?
- Does it burn evenly?
- Does the scent stay strong?
3. Fragrance Load Test
Try 6%, 8%, and 10% fragrance in different candles.
See which gives the best hot and cold throw.
Pro Tip: Some waxes can’t hold high fragrance. Don’t overdo it—too much oil can make the candle sweat or crack.
Keep a simple log to track what works. Small testing = Big savings later!
